Bits and Pieces Blog Hop

Meet Bits and Pieces, a gorgeous new line of Island Batiks for Sherry Shish of Powered by Quilting. This is the fifth time I have been lucky enough to participate in Sherry's Blog Tour. I am so excited to be here. This is her fifth signature line that was designed by in-house Island Batik Designer Kathy Engle.

I love love love these batiks. The mosaic title nature of these speaks to me on so many levels. I love mosaic and tile based quilt designs. These prints fill the mosaic feel like love to work with in my quilts.

Meet Mexican Tiles my design using the Bits and Pieces line.

This was so not my first design using this fabric. I had this mariner's compass star quilt designed and then we swapped out the background from the dark purple to the almond foundation and it lost something. When I got the fabric in hand it told me it wanted to be something else. I had the idea for this Mexican Tile quilt in my notebook with 12 tiles designed in a two- three color layout. The design worked with the yardage from the original idea, Sherry was nice enough to send me a fat quarter of the pink which was not part of the original plan.

This quilt is done using fusible web applique. I used a log cabin construction for the borders around the block centers and it is all pieced using y seams. Which really are not as hard as everyone makes them out to be. You can get a copy of the pattern here.

The blog hop runs through April 4, 2023. There will be an Instagram loop giveaway next weekend. Come and follow me on Instagram for your chance to win. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the blog hop!
